bangkok, july 6 (xinhua) -- thailand's consumer confidence index (cci) has dropped to the lowest level during the last five months, a noted university's economic center reported on thursday.
according to university of the thai chamber of commerce's center for economic and business forecasting, thailand's cci fell to 74.9 last month, the lowest in five months, primarily due to the fact that the purchasing powers of the consumers, especially in the provinces nationwide obviously declined.
the consumers were largely concerned over the increased costs of living and rising prices of varied consumer goods.
the sustained tight-money situation resulted from the fact that most agricultural products have secured lowered prices in domestic markets, thus reducing the purchasing powers of the farmers and others in the provinces, according to the utcc center.
last month's cci declined from last may which registered at 76.0.
nevertheless, the government announced last month that the country's export sector had scored the highest growth in 52 months, the baht was slightly strengthened and the domestic oil prices gradually dropped.
